My name is Olivia Ramazio, I am currently 18 years old and I live in Florida.
Ever since I could remember, I was very athletic and had a lot of energy. All of my favorite activities and hobbies began to get harder, starting at about age 6. I started feeling extremely out of breath, my feet kept crossing in front of each other and my balance started to become unstable.
Freshman year of high school was especially difficult. I started realizing I needed to hold onto someone when I was walking, as I did not want to fall. Before I knew it, I lost my balance and got a severe concussion. I went to see a neurologist and she noticed the way I walk wasn't normal, so she ran some tests and sure enough I finally found out what was wrong with me.
I was officially diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia at 15 years old. It took me almost 2 years to accept that I had FA. I ended up leaving school to focus on my health and cope with everything. I needed to keep doing school so, I ended up joining a home school program for people with health problems that can't attend normal school. Thank goodness!
I started becoming involved in the FA community in March of 2018. The community helped me majorly and made me realize I am not alone in my journey. I got inspired to start my own website and get an Instagram to become more involved in the community and help others that might've been in the same situation as me.
I may have FA, but it doesn't have me.
FA is not me, it's just a part of me.
Together we will cure Friedreich's Ataxia once and for all.
