Meet Kaelan Carlson, a 10-year-old recently diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia, for which there is currently no cure and no treatment. The Dunrobin family is working to raise awareness and funds for research, while also choosing to remain positive.

Four running steps and his feet leave the ground. He propels himself into a summersault, tucking his head to his chest and pulling his arms in as he completes a 270-degree turn.

He lands with a ‘whump’ on his back, his legs sticking straight out, on the couch in the living room.

“I got the landing!” Kaelan announces, popping up.

“You’re going to kill yourself, Kaelan, you’re going to break your neck,” comes the standard mom-response.
