Rock Around the Clock for FARA

On November 28th, the FA community in Rhode Island pulled out their dancing shoes. It was the first Rock around the Clock for FARA and I don’t think it will be the last! From noon to midnight, over 25 musical performers kept the crowd singing, dancing, and tapping to the beat. For twelve hours there was always music to be heard across three rooms at Studio One RI in Lincoln, RI. There were small bands, big bands, DJ’s, singers, even karaoke!

2015 Ace for a Cure

2015Ace1The Ace for the Cure event is something our family looks forward to every year. Our boys, Gavin and Evan, just adore John Isner. They watch him on TV and love seeing him play in person.

On Sunday December 6th, the day began with a delicious lunch, outside in the beautiful 75 degree Florida Sunshine. Once we finished eating, it was onto the auction table. Gavin immediately had to bid on Sandy's famous Shortbread Cookies! He watched the auction table like a hawk and made sure to let me know anytime we were outbid. He was not going to lose out on those cookies! There were many other items as well, gift baskets, trips, experiences and lots of sports memorabilia. There was something for everyone!

FArm to Table Dinner

I have been in Tampa, FL for FArmtoTable1a few months now and Saturday, November 7th was one of the best days I have had here. Ceron and Donald hosted us at Buti T Ful Farms in Plant City for a wonderful evening.

The FArm To Table event included an extravagant dinner, silent auction, live music presented by Erin and The Project and lots of wine and beer. The renowned Chef Stefan from Mahan's prepared a scrumptious meal for 120 people. We had steak, chicken, and sweet potatoes, which were preceded by one of the best salads I have ever had.

Costume for a Cure!

CostumeforaCure1On Sunday, October 25th, three friends and I got in costume and made the 2 ½ hour drive to St. Clairsville, OH to attend the FA Halloween costume bash. Other than rideATAXIA Philly (which I went to for the first time this year), I’ve never been to a FARA fundraiser, so I was very excited! Additionally, I’m at the age where we certainly celebrate Halloween, but simple costumes are perfectly sufficient. I was excited to have a reason to go all out with my costume!

6th Annual Swing Away at FA

2015SwingAway1On Saturday, October 24, one of the largest grassroots fundraisers for FARA was held for the sixth year in a row. The Stacks family helps host a Wiffle Ball tournament and a “Family Fun Day” complete with bouncy houses, pumpkin painting, and a homemade, hearty barbeque lunch to raise research dollars in honor of their two children diagnosed with FA; Hannah and Austin Stacks Austin Stacks.

The community in this northern Georgia town of Dawsonville has been relentless in supporting the search for treatments and cure. Mike and Sue Thomas have generously held the event every year on their beautiful property Cabin Fever Farm. Everyone has left such a lasting impression, working incredibly hard to collect donations and items for the silent auction and raffle—to include successful ticket sales for the second year to raffle off a $1,000 travel voucher and also a week-stay in an all-accessible 1 in a Million cabin in the Smokey Mountains. Thank you is not enough.
