Join us as we combine rideATAXIA Gainesville and SoCal into one virtual effort to raise funds and awareness for Friedreich’s ataxia research: the rideATAXIA Coastal Challenge! Socal Gainesville

Gainesville and SoCal Locations will compete based on a cumulative community score which we will update daily.

Your score will be the sum of these 3 things:

  1. Community Fundraising
  2. Community Mileage
  3. Social Media Score
Each day of our 10-day cruise campaign, a local team from SoCal and Gainesville will represent their community in the day’s designated challenge on rideATAXIA’s Facebook and Instagram stories. A daily poll will decide each day’s winner, so make sure to encourage your friends, families, donors, and fellow participants alike to follow rideATAXIA on socials and vote each day to put your community ahead! Join in on the challenge fun at home and make sure to tag @rideATAXIA to show even more support for your coast.

Your Impact

rideATAXIA is a nation-wide program of bike rides that welcomes people of all abilities to ride, and to raise funds for FARA's mission to treat and cure FA through research. To make a donation to the program rather than a specific location or individual, Click here:

In late 2009, rideATAXIA became a program of the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), offering single day challenging and family fun bike rides at locations all across the USA.  rideATAXIA has served as a unique destination event for families living with FA and other movement disorders to join with researchers, pharmaceutical representatives, and area cyclists in the ride to cure FA. From all corners of the country, people gather to rideATAXIA events for friendship, camaraderie, and the opportunity to engage new communities, moving forward together towards treatments and a cure.

Initiated by Kyle Bryant in 2007, rideATAXIA has raised invaluable awarenss for FA and over $6 million in support of FA research grants.

Bryant’s inspiration spurs from his diagnosis at age 17 and the discovery that he could travel long distances under his own power on a recumbent tricycle. Fueled by the passion to do more for himself and the FA community, Bryant and his family completed 2,500 mile bike ride from San Diego to Memphis to raise awareness and funds for FA research. Over the next two years, Kyle, his family and a growing number of cyclists made the journey on bikes and trikes from Sacramento to Las Vegas and Portland to Seattle. That was just the beginning of rideATAXIA.

In 2020, together we conquered virtual challenges, reached impressive activity goals, and fundraised over $1M to get us closer to treatments and a cure, all while connecting with each other virtually. Thank you for all of the ways you contributed to the effort despite this challenging year.
