rideATAXIA is a way for people to take action. Whether you're an experienced cyclist or simply someone who wants to make a difference, rideATAXIA offers people of all abilities a way to join the effort to raise funds for FA research.

From all corners of the world, people gather to rideATAXIA events for friendship, camaraderie, and the opportunity to engage new communities. Each ride features:

  • Multiple route lengths to accommodate different levels of ability
  • Fully stocked rest stops
  • Strong SAG/mechanical support
  • Delicious post-ride food

How to Participate

From volunteering to cycling to creating a fundraising team, there are many ways to get involved in rideATAXIA. If you are unable to attend a ride in your area, consider donating, participating in a ride virtually, or creating your own event through rideATAXIA Hometown.

Ride. There are four national rideATAXIA events to participate in: Gainesville, Chicago, Philly, and Dallas.

Walk

Walk. Each national rideATAXIA event features a walking route for teammates who prefer to walk.

Volunteer

Volunteer. The national rideATAXIA events require approximately 50 volunteers to make them go.

Host

Host. Can’t make it to a national rideATAXIA event? Host a group ride or event of your own.

Connect

Connect. Meet other FA community members and enjoy a catered lunch and activities

rideATAXIA's History

Initiated by Kyle Bryant in 2007, rideATAXIA has raised invaluable awareness for FA and over $10 million in support of FA research grants. Bryant’s inspiration spurs from his diagnosis at age 17 and the discovery that he could travel long distances under his own power on a recumbent tricycle. Fueled by the passion to do more for himself and the FA community, Bryant and his family completed a 2,500-mile bike ride from San Diego to Memphis to raise awareness and funds for FA research.

That was just the beginning of rideATAXIA. Now functioning as a program of the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), rideATAXIA offers challenging and family-friendly bike rides. From all corners of the world, people gather to rideATAXIA events for friendship, camaraderie, and the opportunity to engage new communities, moving forward together towards treatments and a cure.

Ataxian Athlete Initiative

Part of the mission of rideATAXIA is to "EMPOWER Ataxians by inspiring, motivating and providing opportunities to develop physical and mental strength."

Since 2009, through the Ataxian Athlete Initiative (AAI), rideATAXIA has been facilitating the funding and purchase of adaptive cycling equipment for aspiring Ataxian Athletes so they may start their personal rideATAXIA adventure.

Yes, if online registration is unavailable, you can pay day-of pricing and register in-person.

We can take credit cards, check and cash as registration payment or donation on ride day.

No, rideATAXIA events have many different registration options. In addition, to cycling options, there are also options to participate in a walk/roll route or come for lunch, engage with the FA community, and participate in post-ride celebrations.
