Team FARA Blog

Team FARA members are running, walking, biking and swimming for FA research around the world.

While they are geographically dispersed, Team FARA is united with the same goal: to draw attention to FA through acts of physical endurance and to support the advancement of FA research towards treatments and a cure for FA.

See Jane Run

“It was hard and I’m still sore but I did it!,” says Zoe Penston.
On June 21, 2015, Team FARA was represented at “See Jane Run” in Alameda, CA. “See Jane Run” is a 5k and half marathon that is held annually and gives runners spectacular views of downtown San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay. Although this is an annual event, this was the first time Team FARA participated.

DC Color Run for FA Awareness

On May 17th, Washington DC gathered thousands for its annual Color Run. Named “the happiest 5K on the planet”, the 3.1 miles along the National Harbor Waterfront came alive with runners and walkers drenched in bright colors, supporting fundraising organizations and spreading contagious smiles to everyone involved.

Million Dollar Bike Ride 2015

On May 9, 2015, Team FARA had a team in The Million Dollar Bike (MDBR) to benefit the Rare disease Research Center at University of Pennsylvania.  We had team members on the 12 mile and the 33 mile route plus we had a table post ride with FARA/rideATAXIA info.  Team members included Cindy Timbie, Justin Timbie, Dr. Dave Lynch, Pat Ritschel, Brie Von Hausch, Liam Dougherty, and Sarah Gelbhard.

I had the honor of riding with Dr. Dave Lynch, FARA Board Member Pat Ritschel, and Justin Timbie.

Country Music Marathon 2015

"Running was the time he felt most alive. He knew that as surely as he'd ever known anything." -Runners world

This is the first time I've ever attended a marathon. Rock and Roll Marathon in Nashville Tennessee. Unexpected right? Team FARA was going to be in my town, I was excited to know that "FARA" was headed down south!

Boston Marathon 2015

The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the most prestigious road racing events. This year was the 119th!

Jeff Morgan is my cousin but more like a brother. This was his seventh Boston Marathon, second time running for Team FARA, and first time I was able to attend. It was a bitterly cold, rainy, and windy day but that didn't stop Jeff or the 30,000 others running with him. It also didn't stop the thousands of spectators from lining the streets and cheering them on. The excitement of being in the crowd and waiting to catch a glimpse of Jeff was such a wonderful experience. Jeff raised $1,400 for FARA, raised awareness to the crowds who saw his Team FARA jersey, and made his cousin very proud and thankful to have such loving family.
